Front push bar

Postby cabtone » Sat Nov 22, 2008 4:53 pm

Hi there
I'm thinking about fitting a front push bar to my car.
Everything I've read about them suggests their a good idea for shunting your van around the storage compound etc;
What's the bad news on this subject I wonder?
Anyone out there got an opinion.
Regards

Not all cars can have a bar fitted. Check first before attempting to fit one.

it is not in your own interest. in event of a head on collision the front of a car is designed to collapse and by so doing absorb energy. with a heavy piece of iron on the front the impact force will not be reduced but passed on, possibly to you and any others in the car.

Thanks John
Have looked at Watlings web site, and that's where i'll probably get it from.
Sounds like I'll have to get a boat as well.

Ive got one fitted to my Shogun Sport.

My drive is a sloping, 45 degree angle pain in the ass. tried a Mr Shifta, no good, tried a fixed mover, no good.
So went back to original idea of a front tow/push bar. I got mine from Watlings.

I can honestly say its brilliant for its job and makes putting the van away, a twin axle at 1900 kgs, a doddle.
Should of fitted it from the start, save me messing about with movers.

Incidently on the accident issue. I fail to see how having an extra steel bar across the very front of the car can be a bad thing?
Either way its fitted, its staying and its great.

Couldn't agree more Brassneck.
I've got a Hobby that has no leisure battery.
For a fixed mover, I'd have had to fit that first (more weight to van ). Then the weight of the mover itself, which I beleive is 30kg approx. Not to mention the cost. Mr Shifter type movers are again quite heavy, and where do you put it? in the back of the car?
Front push bar, about £130 all in from Watlings. I wonder why their not more popular. I've got a big old 4x4, so I'm not really fussy if a front push bar might look odd or out of place. Perhaps if you've got a nice modern car you'd feel different.
Anyway, I'm really keen on the idea, and I've not even had it fitted yet.
If you were a member of the Nissan Owners Club as I am, there's even a guy who makes them up his self.

I've looked at them as I don't find the turning ability of my Truma TA that good.

However the thought of hitching up again puts me off.
